Create a play in just a few days

Playmakers – the creative learning and community engagement work of the arts and education charity, Play to the Crowd – wants young people aged 7 – 18 to join in with their play-making days at Theatre Royal Winchester in August.

Play in 2 Days and Play in 3 Days are two opportunities for young avid performers and theatre makers to bring to life on stage, two classic stories – the first, Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden; the second, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes.

The young creators will take part in a series of interactive workshops, led by professional theatre practitioners, to create their own adaptations of these beloved stories packed with magic and mystery, whimsy and adventure. The workshops will explore acting, directing and performance skills; how to write scenes and dialogue, and incorporating stage design, costume and props into a play to bring it to life.

Play in 2 Days: Secret Garden is for anyone aged 7 – 12 and will take place at Theatre Royal Winchester from Monday 04 – Tuesday 05 August, sessions from 10am – 4pm, with the young people’s performance on the Tuesday at 3.30pm. Tickets to take part cost £55.

Play in 3 Days: Sherlock Holmes is for anyone aged 13 – 18 and will take place at Theatre Royal Winchester from Monday 04 – Wednesday 06 August, sessions from 10am – 4pm, with the young people’s performance on the Wedneday at 3.30pm. Tickets cost £80.

Play to the Crowd – the charity that runs Playmakers and Theatre Royal Winchester – is able to offer financial support (such as bursaries) to those who find price a barrier to joining in – and they are welcome to contact Young People’s Producer, Shian Hunter, for a confidential chat, at shian@playtothecrowd.co.uk
