Letter: Southampton local and independent business “Call to Action” from Southampton Ukulele Jam

Southampton local and independent business “Call to Action” with love from Southampton Ukulele Jam (SUJ)

Dear Southampton Local Businesses,

SUJ would like to talk to you about how we might help each other. We would like to help shine a light on Southampton’s independent sector and promote your business.

Background

Southampton Ukulele Jam (SUJ), the hardest working ukulele jam in Southampton, are planning to set a UK record for the longest jam in the UK “The Uke-athon: Longest Marathon Ukulele Jam (UK).” You can read more about it here.

Starting at 10:00 on Saturday the 9th of August 2025 in the historic and beautiful God’s House Tower (GHT) ‘the jam’ plan to try to play for more than 24hrs, continuously.

With four aims:

  1. To raise money for Southampton charities supporting Young People, people made vulnerable by Domestic Abuse & Homelessness and people requiring palliative care.
  2. To shine a light on all that is fantastic about Southampton: its people, its generosity, its fun, its communities, its local businesses.
  3. To reaffirm Southampton’s place at the centre of the Ukulele Universe.
  4. To continue our mission to “make the world a tiny bit better by playing good songs, moderately well on tiny instruments” (for a looooooooooooong time).
  • The attempt will be free to witness in person at GHT.
  • The attempt will be live-streamed on YouTube on a professionally designed webpage with scrolling ticker tape and options for logos to be added.

How can you help?

  • Are you a music shop?
    • Do you want to donate, or pay for, spare strings?
  • Are you a local pharmacy?
    • We need Vocalzonestm!!!!!!
  • Have you a better idea!?
    • We’re all ears!!!

What do you get in return?

  • Your business will be promoted to a large local, regional and worldwide audience.
  • You will feel an ENORMOUS sense of wellbeing for having participated in a good thing.
