Southampton Hospital Radio (SHR), the volunteer-led charity that has been brightening days for patients, their families, and staff since 1952, has launched its brand-new mobile app. This major step for the station significantly expands its reach, making its blend of entertainment, companionship, and information accessible far beyond the hospital walls.
Previously enjoyed primarily via bedside TV units, flagship shows such as Requestline can now be enjoyed by anyone, anywhere.
The app offers instant access to live broadcasts, direct messaging for requests and dedications, and a full program guide. You can access exclusive hospital podcasts, read presenter blogs, stay updated with station and hospital news, quickly find essential information, and for in-hospital listeners, enjoy live Southampton FC match commentary.
“What I really love is that there’s no need to log in – you just tap the app and you’re instantly connected,” said Simon Carter, presenter. “It’s quick, easy, and the sound quality is absolutely fantastic.”
Beyond convenience, the app is also strengthening the sense of community that hospital radio has always stood for.
“This app is so much more than just a new way to listen – it brings our healthcare community closer together,” said Aaron Jacobs, presenter. “Whether you’re a patient, or just stumbled across us, it offers an easy, instant connection to something familiar and comforting. By downloading it, you’re not just tuning in – you’re becoming part of a shared experience that supports and uplifts everyone within healthcare in Southampton.”
To download the free app, shradio.uk/app or search “Southampton Hospital Radio” in the app stores.
