Comedy fans are invited to an evening of homegrown comic relief with the Locally Grown Laughs Talent Night at Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday 10 September.
Audiences can expect comedy observation, comic poetry, wordplay, relatable – and less relatable – material, and silly song from a host of local performers.
The line-up includes comedy poet, MC, and ‘one of life’s late starters’, PG Trips – with excerpts from his show, Infusion. His material explores ‘the pressing matters of the 21st century’ – from personal hygienc advice to carbon monoxide alarms.
Zach Brookes is an autistic comedian who shares unique stories and observations from personal experiences of being on the Autistic Spectrum.
Rob Stewart gives you rickets sees the south-coast-touring stand-up comic – and master of the awkward pause – perform word play and present a unique world view that ‘will literally cause you to contract rickets’.
Charly Armstong presents a work in progress piece of feminist stand-up – relatable material that tackles the issues that span generations of women and somehow still exist today.
Gary Paul Nicholson’s Leonard Cohen’s Advertising Jingles, and Other Songs and Stories is the previously unknown story of Cohen’s early career as a writer of jingles, with songs about ducks, socks, wrongful canine arrest and more.
Poet, clown, and semi-retired burlesque maverick, Victoria Hancock – aka Jeu Jeu La Foille – will perform sections from her show, Testy Manifesto; plus, host. Victoria trained in mime, acrobatics and physical theatre at the London International School of Performing Arts and Arthaus Berlin – when she was ‘already too old to run away with the circus’.
The Locally Grown Laughs Talent Night follows a call-out for local, comedic singers, musicians, stand-ups and poets to take part in the evening.
The show will take place on the main stage – with the audience seated cabaret-style on stage to create a relaxed and intimate setting.
The show is a Pick Your Price event meaning audiences can choose the ticket price that works best for them – starting at just £4.
Locally Grown Laughs Talent Night will take place at Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday 10 September at 7pm. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
