Mayflower’s collaboration with Dance Along the South Coast

Four leading South Coast venues unite to spotlight world-class contemporary dance – Mayflower Theatre and Mayflower Studios in Southampton, Pavilion Dance South West in Bournemouth, and Lighthouse, Poole have come together in an ambitious regional partnership to bring international contemporary dance to local audiences.

This collaborative effort, titled Dance Along the South Coast, is creating a shared cultural journey through world-class performances and collaborations. United by a shared vision, these venues are working together to bring international contemporary dance to local stages.

Mayflower have specifically appointed Dance Programme Leader, Tory East, who joins the organisation with over 25 years’ experience working within the dance sector as a professional dancer, choreographer, educator and youth dance specialist.

This appointment highlights Mayflower’s commitment and ambition to developing our dance audiences.

Tory says: “The program of dance presented at Mayflower and along the South Coast is extremely exciting and of the highest quality.

“There is a huge diversity of styles and cultural influences on our stages, which is helping to make dance more accessible by offering something for everyone to discover.

“I am honoured and excited to be part of an organisation in which dance is highly respected and valued, I look forward working with our partners across the South to create inspiring and unique opportunities for people to experience dance.”

This initiative is part of Mayflower’s commitment to presenting a diverse programme of dance with Dance Consortium, a network that tours world-class contemporary dance from around the globe to venues across the UK and Ireland.

This season, Dance Consortium are bringing Cirque Eloize’s brilliant and energetic show iD Reloaded to Mayflower Theatre this month.

Dance Along the South Coast also focuses on artist development and learning, creating opportunities for local and regional artists to connect with touring companies, observe rehearsals, and participate in workshops.

Helen Keall, Executive Director of Pavillion Dance South West, explains: “Dance is a brilliant way to explore particular experiences and identities. Many meaningful collaborations have grown from the project, including artists who met at a gathering and went on to create a duet together.”

The Dance Along the South Coast partnership invites audiences to try something new and experience dance. To find out more about Dance Along the South Coast and book tickets, visit: mayflower.org.uk.
