Classic TV stars return to the Winchester stage in a Sherlock Holmes adventure with a difference when Sherlock Holmes & The Sign of Four: A radio play live on stage comes to Theatre Royal Winchester from Tuesday 30 September.
Colin Baker (Doctor Who) and Terry Molloy (The Archers) return to reprise their roles as Holmes and Watson in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic tale about the discovery of a missing fortune and the murder of a Bartholomew Sholto. Sherlock Holmes must investigate who committed these heinous crimes and how they involve a map of the far-off Agra Fort.
A case that stretches all of his powers of deduction, the mystery begins in war-torn India and ends in Victorian London. Holmes must explore what became of Captain Morstan and why his daughter receives a valuable pearl every year from an anonymous benefactor. With the help of the Baker Street Irregulars and his working partner, Watson’s new love, Mary, can Holmes bring a cut-throat band’s malicious leader to justice.
This production is presented by Crime and Comedy Theatre Company – the same touring theatre company behind The Hound of the Baskervilles, which came to the theatre last year with Baker and Molloy as Holmes and Watson. The two productions both retell the Conan Doyle stories as radio plays live on stage meaning the set is a radio studio, the actors appear ready for a radio broadcast of the story and the sound effects are created live on stage – combining to take audiences back to Victorian London.
This is a rare chance to see these popular actors live on stage in a play not to be missed.
Sherlock Holmes &The Sign of Four: A radio play live on stage will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from Tuesday 30 September – Wednesday 1 October at 7.30pm. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
