Southampton’s vibrant film community will take centre stage on Monday 15th September as Harbour Lights Picturehouse hosts the Regional Premiere of A Night Like This, the debut feature from City Eye and Solent University Alumni director Liam Calvert (pictured) and writer/producer Diego Scerrati.
Presented by City Eye, Southampton’s film and digital media charity, the event will feature a special Q&A with the filmmakers, celebrating the city’s role in nurturing emerging talent and strengthening the local film scene.
Fresh from its International festival run and after premiering at BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival, A Night Like This will be released in UK cinemas nationwide on Thursday 26th September.
The Southampton premiere is not only an opportunity to see the film before its national release, but also a celebration of the region’s creative talent. Director Liam Calvert is a former member of the City Eye team; six crew members studied at Southampton Solent University; and City Eye’s 1825 Filmmakers and BFI Film Academy Short Course student runners contributed on set. In addition, City Eye’s own Head of Production, Aaron West served as B-Cam Operator.

“This is a defining milestone for Liam and a moment to spotlight the depth of filmmaking talent in Southampton. A Night Like This demonstrates what can be achieved when local talent is supported and celebrated,” said Susan Beckett, Executive Director of City Eye.
Described as “meeting somewhere between Before Sunrise and Weekend”, the film follows two men who embark on an unexpected night of discovery, reflection and connection. Starring Alexander Lincoln, Jack Brett Anderson, David Bradley, and Beth Rylance, it explores themes of love, redemption and identity.
The Regional Premiere of A Night Like This takes place on Monday 15 September, 6pm at Harbour Lights Picturehouse, Southampton. Tickets are available via the Harbour Lights website: picturehouses.com.
