A story inspired by the journal of an executioner comes to the stage with Making a Killing at Theatre Royal Winchester on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 October.

Making a Killing tells the story of Claus Kohler – an apprentice of Frantz Schmidt, Nuremberg’s seasoned executioner. The two men are thrown together in a world of duty, morality and power. But as the gallows fill and suspicions take hold, their fates become entwined and they must decide which side of the rope they’re on. Making a Killing is a dark comedy about justice, corruption and the cost of survival in a world disturbingly like our own.

The show takes inspiration from The Journal of Master Franz Schmidt – Public Executioner of Nuremberg from 1573 – 1617 – an historical record that reveals the contradictions of a man who killed for a living. The show is by Ben Kernow and performed by two actors; and comes to Winchester courtesy of Ha Hum Ah Productions – an award-winning theatre and film production company based in Cornwall that creates bold and imaginative stories, which spark curiosity and connections, and whose other productions include adaptations of Around The World in 80 Days and The Massive Tragedy of Madame Bovary.

Making a Killing will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 October at 7.30pm, plus a Wednesday matinee at 1.30pm. Recommended age: 14+. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
