True crime fans are invited to explore the case of the most notorious serial killer of all time when The Ripper Files comes to Theatre Royal Winchester from Monday 22 October.
The Ripper Files is a spine-tinging whodunnit that tells the story of a Charles William Lestrange 13 years after he was promoted to detective inspector and transferred to Whitechapel to investigate the murders of the 1888 Autumn of Terror – when Jack the Ripper stalked the streets.
Over a decade on, Lestrange is assisted by Samuel Edwards – a former detective constable, and Edwards’ ‘close friend’ – Miss Elsie Fordham – a rising star of the music hall stage – to go over the ghoulish events of Victorian Whitechapel, which have been a source of universal fascination since the 1880s.Lestrange is up to his neck in evidence – but there’s one fact only the Ripper himself knows!
The Ripper Files is presented by Rumpus Theatre Company – a lively, producing theatre company that presents new and established playwrighting, from contemporary comedy to Gothic horror – with past productions including adaptations of Dickens’ The Signalman and Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell Tale Heart.
The Ripper Files will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from Monday 20 – Wednesday 22 October at 7.30pm, with a Wednesday matinee at 2.30pm. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
