Stand Up To Racism Solidarity Gathering this weekend

Stand Up To Racism Solidarity Gathering this weekend

On Saturday (18th October) Southampton Stand Up To Racism will be holding an ‘Emergency Solidarity Gathering’.

The event will take place from 3pm outside Highfield House Hotel. It is being held in response to an anti-migration demonstration organised by a group called ‘Southampton Patriots’ set to be held in the same location.

Southampton Stand Up To Racism (SSUTR) have been holding counter-demonstrations at the location since anti-migration rallies began being held every Friday outside the hotel, which is used to house asylum seekers.

SSUTR said: “We are a City of Sanctuary – proud, compassionate and diverse. We’ll show up – peacefully and powerfully – to say no more.”

Jayanti Shah, MBE, secretary of SSUTR said: “If the false narrative is not countered with the show of strength of numbers, it will be only a matter of time before you will be targeted, as was the case in 1930s.”

SSUTR will also be holding a counter-demonstration tonight (17th October) at the same location, gathering beforehand at Highfield Church, from 5.15pm.
