Anti-asylum seeker protest and unity counter demonstration changed to Thursday this week

Following Sunday’s all-out anti-asylum seeker march through Southampton, organised by ‘Southampton Patriots’ and large ‘Unity Demonstration’ counter-demo, organised by Southampton Stand Up To Racism, alongside local faith, community and trade union groups, the weekly protests and counter protests outside a Portswood hotel continue this week, taking place tonight (30th October).

Southampton Stand Up To Racism has put an urgent appeal out to local people to come to the revised date tonight, and an earlier time (4.45pm) rather than their usual Friday evening counter-demonstration, after ‘Southampton Patriots’ changed the date of their weekly anti-asylum seeker hotel protest away from Halloween.

SSUTR said that they would not allow the group calling themselves ‘Southampton Patriots’ to “spread division unchallenged,” putting an ’emergency call’ out to the whole Southampton community to join them, gathering at Highfield Church before walking to the hotel together.

SSUTR said: “Peaceful, united and proud. Southampton says no to racism and yes to community. Let’s show who we are – together and peaceful.”
