Family friendly Global Day of Action for Climate Justice in Southampton

On Saturday 15 November, people across Southampton will be coming together as part of a Global Day of Action coinciding with the UN’s climate negotiations at COP30 in Brazil.

Groups such as Greenpeace Southampton, Friends of the Earth Southampton and Southampton Climate Action Network will meet at 1pm for a family friendly gathering of drumming and dancing at Arundel Gardens on Portland Terrace, while dispersing information about the new Greenpeace campaign, ‘The Great Gas Rip-off’.

This new campaign pushes for the price of electricity generation to be decoupled from the international market, which sets high prices and allows energy companies to gain record profits.

After the outdoors event, the coalition of groups will be gathering in Southampton coffee shop Coffeelogy for food, family friendly art activities and to connect with organisations striving to make Southampton a greener, healthier place to live.

Ruth Magennis, one of the organisers said: “All over the world, peoples and communities are fighting for survival, for their rights and for justice. We in the UK are pushing for a basic standard of living, fighting back against the profiteering of oil and gas companies that are pushing our heating bills sky high.

“Our struggles are linked with economic turmoil, climate catastrophe and attacks on human rights and genocide in places like Palestine, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan.

“We invite all citizens, groups, communities and movements to join us on 15 November to combat despair and join the fightback.’
