The Southampton Christmas Market is back for the Christmas season.
A lot of the stalls and layout have remained the same this year compared to last. One major difference is the Ferris Wheel has changed located to be next to Bargate, rather than in the Guildhall Square (where there were other rides and a small number of stalls including mulled wine).
This is good in one way because the views out to the Southampton Waters and seeing the lights from the stalls all up Above bar Street were beautiful. However, the Ferris Wheel is placed right where the walkway through the Bargate comes out at. Ideally this could be been placed further along to help the already very cramped conditions the Southampton Christmas Market always creates especially at the weekends.

A lot of favourite stalls have made a return to the main markets which I was excited to see. This includes a fantastic variety of sweets at the pick and mix cart, the Churros which smell amazing when walking near West Quay every year, and The Yorkshire Pudding Wrap Co. The large variety of bric-a-brac stalls seems to include some stalls I didn’t notice last year such as a very unusual garden decoration stall.
Out of all the food stalls to have dinner at I decided to go to the Bratwurst Grill to try their Currywurst (£9) as it’s not something I have had before. This is a sliced grilled sausage in a curry ketchup and served with a bread roll. I really enjoyed the taste of this and it was a quick turnaround from payment to getting my food compared to going into the food court in WestQuay.
Since I looked around and enjoyed myself at the Christmas Market I have been thoroughly in the Christmas spirit. It is always a tight squeeze trying to get around the Christmas Market, but it is always a welcome sight returning year on year and seeing how it is slightly different and improved upon. Come back to see how I find returning to the Winchester Christmas Market and Eastleigh Christmas Market soon!
