The Manatees end autumn tour with date at Southampton’s 1865 this weekend

British indie-rock five-piece The Manatees bring their UK tour to a homecoming conclusion at Southampton’s 1865 on December 20th.

Earlier this year they released their latest single, Consequence, a glimpse into the aftermath of failed love and driven by crunchy guitars, intricate vocal harmonies, and a propulsive rhythm section. With this track, The Manatees stepped into a darker, more emotionally charged sonic palette than ever before.

Speaking on the release, frontman Jay said: “Consequence is a hesitation to deal with the emotional wreckage left in the wake of love. It’s a very human reaction to the mourning of a relationship. It confronts the ways in which you were complicit in its failure, while still craving the scraps of what it was. Ultimately, it’s about what happens after love ends. Instrumentally, it’s incredibly dark and desperate. We’re super proud of the tension the vocal harmonies create, and the overall feeling the song produces.”

The Manatees (Jay, Tyler, Miller, Issy, and Joe) blend thrashing guitars, pulsing bass lines, and melodic vocals to carve out their own space in modern rock. The band has drawn comparisons to The Klaxons, Wolf Alice, and Inhaler, building a sound that’s both nostalgic and forward-thinking.

Last summer saw the band take on festivals across the UK and beyond, including Truck Festival, SXSW, and Live at Leeds, alongside an eight-date headline tour, with sold-out stops in Manchester, Bristol, and London. Their TV debut came with a live performance on E4’s ‘Made In Chelsea’, followed by a sold-out show at The Camden Assembly and their biggest hometown show to date at Southampton’s Papillon.

Their April 2024 EP, ‘Different State of Mind’, gained airplay and support from BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders and BBC 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq, marking a new chapter for the band.

Releases this year have warranted support from the likes of E4’s Made In Chelsea, BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Radio Solent, where the band were featured as Artist of the Week. Looking ahead, The Manatees hit the road again this autumn for a headline tour with stops in Glasgow, Newcastle, Manchester, Bristol, London, Southampton, and more. They also appeared at Portsmouth’s Victorious Festival, sharing the bill with Kings of Leon, Vampire Weekend, and others.
