Gym team lifts more than 1m kilograms in mental health fundraiser

Chandler’s Ford training studio, StudioTwenty3, brought together more than 80 members, friends and coaches to collectively lift over 1 million kilograms in weight, raising more than £2,500 for mental health charity, Solent Mind.

As a show of strength and solidarity for the 1 in 4 people who experience mental health challenges each year, the StudioTwenty3 fundraising team pushed themselves to their physical limits. And, in just 6 hours, they lifted an extraordinary 1,202,918kg.

The Southampton gym set itself a pre-Christmas mission to also support the charity, which provides vital mental health in Hampshire.

Ellie Holtom, Personal Trainer and Academy Manager, at StudioTwenty3, said: “We are extremely proud to raise money for such an important and incredible charity.

“This special fundraiser meant so much to everyone involved, and the determination, community spirit and support shown on the day was amazing to be a part of. Our target was to lift 1 million kilograms, so to actually manage 1,202,918kg is unbelievable.

“A huge thank you to everyone who took part – seeing our community come together with such passion and commitment for Solent Mind, perfectly reflects what StudioTwenty3 stands for and how much Solent Mind means to so many people.”

Robert Wayman, Director of Fundraising, External Engagement and IT at Solent Mind, said: “What a fantastic challenge! This was no mean feat, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone involved. The money raised will go directly towards our services supporting mental health in the region, so a big thank you from all of us here!”

Solent Mind is the largest mental health charity in Hampshire. It is making sure that anyone with a mental health problem has somewhere to turn to for advice and support.
