Another anti-asylum seeker protest and unity counter-demonstration to be held today

Following Friday’s sparsely-attended anti-asylum seeker protest (pictured), which saw around 20 people gather outside a hotel temporarily housing people awaiting their asylum decisions, another rally is being held by the group in Portswood, Southampton, on Sunday afternoon (4th January).

Recent anti-asylum seeker demonstrations have seen a significant drop in numbers since highs in the summer of around 100 protesters gathering outside the hotel.

Southampton Stand Up To Racism will be holding another counter-demonstration, to share a message of unity, with demonstrators meeting outside Waitrose in Portswood, near the bus stop, at2.45pm  before marching up Portswood high street to stand in opposition the the anti-asylum seeker protest.

In as post on social media, SSUTR said: “Local residents and businesses have had enough. We must put an end to this hate by standing together.”
