Fans of The Lord of the Rings will be thrilled to learn that an homage to the fantasy adventure visits Theatre Royal Winchester on Friday 30 January in the comic Parody of the Rings.
Parody of the Rings tells the story of what happens when a local cinema’s Lord of the Rings movie marathon goes wrong when the ushers misplace the DVDs of the trilogy – and with only the soundtracks to hand, they improvise the entire three-film saga in front of a live audience!
So, will Frodo make it to Mordor? Will Gollum stop stealing the show?
Parody of the Rings is an evening packed with chaos and nonsense as the ‘ushers’ attempt to recreate a tale of hobbits, elves and orcs – without any visuals or planning!
The show – which enjoyed it’s worldwide premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last summer – is brought to the stage by The Production Garden – an award-winning live theatre and events company who create experiences that tour the UK and worldwide, and whose theatrical productions include Pride and Prejudice* (*Sort of) , Awake My Soul: The Mumford & Sons Story, and Wind in the Willows – with co-production/investment credits including New Old Friends’ Houdini’s Great Escape . The founders also launched The Garden Theatre Festival – Bath’s largest outdoor theatre festival.
Parody of the Rings is ‘fun for family and fans’ and anyone who has ever wanted to see Gollum fight a battle with sound effects or Gandalf try to remember what happens next!
Parody of the Rings will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Friday 30 January at 7.30pm. Recommended age: 12+. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
