Fans of opera, and those new to the genre, are invited to enjoy Mozart’s comic tale of love and deception when Cosi fan tutte visits Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday 4 February 2026.
Cosi fan tutte tells the story of two young officers who make a wager – can their fiancées remain faithful when temptation calls. The story involves a mischievous plot hatched by a friend; disguises and mistaken identities; and spiralling romantic entanglements.
Mozart’s sparkling opera, which reminds us that love is rarely simple or certain, is brought to the stage by The Merry Opera Company who, since 2007, have been touring shows around the country, sung in a language their audiences understand, so that more people can engage with opera. Past productions have included renditions of Hansel und Gretel, Strauss’ Die Fledermaus, Mozart’s Don Giovanni and Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance.
Cosi fan tutte, features some of the composer’s most intricate music and The Merry Opera Company’s rendition is sung in English to a translation by writer and musician Amanda Holden – who, during her lifetime, wrote texts for stage performance, the majority of which being translations of opera librettos, plus concert works, music theatre and plays, which have been performed across the country and around the world.
This production also features additional material by the company, and blends razor-sharp wit with moments of truth and reflection.
Cosi fan tutte will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday 4 February at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Recommended age: 11+. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
