I read the review of the latest film version of Wuthering Heights on your site and wanted to add my thoughts on the film as well.
I read the book many years ago and fell in love with the story which was born in the wilderness of the dales and in the cold, dark household where Cathy was raised.
The boy, Heathcliff is from a slave or a Black background who joined the household out of desperation. He was mistreated by the father, while being a friend and playmate with Cathy. This aspect was short of reality in the book.
The film ignored the essence of the relationship, didn’t show enough of their wanderings in the moors and the love which grew stronger as they grew up.
The film was short of many things and in excess of sexual expressions of kissing and sex.
I honestly expected a romantic, deeply sad interaction among the characters and ended up disappointed at the way that beautiful novel was made into a contemporary film for the screen.
