Following the success of last year, RAW – Winchester’s Contemporary Performance Week – returns for a second year from Tuesday 24 – Sunday 29 March.
RAW is a collaboration between Winchester based arts venues to bring the best national contemporary performance to the city, alongside providing a platform for emerging local creative talent. This year performances and workshops are taking place at Theatre Royal Winchester and The Nutshell.
This year’s RAW week features contemporary dance, theatre, workshops and a photographic exhibition as follows:

Cathy Waller Company’s You & Us (Tue 24 Mar at Theatre Royal Winchester) is a powerful reflection of humanity that asks why we hide parts of ourselves and what it might mean to be fully seen, featuring emotionally charged dance, an original soundtrack and award-winning film. Cathy is also offering a rhythm focused Professional Company Class that day on the theatre’s stage. Open to professional dancers and those in vocational or pre vocational training (ages 16+), it is a rare opportunity to dance alongside the Cathy Waller Company dancers. It is free to take part but advance booking is required. Cathy is also running two Between You & Us workshops (Sun 29 Mar at the Nutshell) aimed at those aged 5-7 and 8-12 years old. Fun, playful and creative workshops, no dance experience is required. The Nutshell will also play host to a powerful photographic exhibition, Unseen I Unmasked, by Harris (The1Harris) sharing experiences of Neurodivergence in order to unmask identity and perception. The exhibition, which is free to attend, forms part of Cathy Waller’s You & Us touring triptych examining invisibility through photography, dance and film.
Triptych (Fri 27 Mar at Theatre Royal Winchester) is a captivating evening of dance, movement, light and design, exploring connection between internal and external worlds. It is by the award-winning choreographer-director Lewis Major, whose work is intensely physical and theatrical, giving audiences a distinctly visceral experience. His work has been seen globally including at the Sydney Opera House, Sadler’s Wells and Galway International Arts Festival.

Moments (Sat 28 Mar at Theatre Royal Winchester) weaves personal stories with theatrical imagination to deal with the key midlife experience of losing a parent while becoming and being a parent to the next generation. It is by the critically acclaimed Theatre Re team who celebrate 15 years of working together and return to Theatre Royal Winchester after enjoying success there during last year’s RAW week with the international smash, The Nature of Forgetting.
I Saw Satan at the 7-Eleven (Wed 25 Mar at The Nutshell) is a screwball monologue that’s part romance, part buddy comedy, part body horror by performer Christopher Brett Bailey.
