SS Shieldhall releases details on additional trips for 2026

Volunteers at Southampton’s heritage steamship SS Shieldhall have announced some interesting additional sailings for their 2026 programme.

On Sun 24 May, Shieldhall will steam to the Solent for an ‘Action Stations!’ exercise with Solent Rescue. Shieldhall will also rendezvous with other vessels on the water, whilst special guests on board will include members of the National Coastwatch Institution.

On Friday 7 August, Shieldhall makes a long-awaited return to view The Red Arrows and the Cowes Fireworks display, staged to mark the 200th anniversary of Cowes Week. This sailing – last staged in 2019 – is always very popular, and includes live musical entertainment.

On Sunday 23 August, Shieldhall will head west along the Solent to the far side of The Needles, one of the most iconic coastal views in England. Afternoon viewing from the decks of the Shieldhall should allow guests close-ups of the famous Isle of Wight Polar Bear!

As with all Shieldhall sailings, guests are encouraged to visit the impressive engine room with its original steam engines at work and the bridge, with its traditional instruments and gleaming brasswork; admire the ship’s steam assisted steering gear (similar to that used on Titanic); talk to the Captain and her volunteer crew; listen to the informed commentary on the sights and sounds of Southampton Water and The Solent; observe the great ocean liners and container ships; walk the teak decks and relax in the Saloon.

Shieldhall has a wide range of refreshments including tea, coffee, real ale, a range of bottled beers, wine and hot and cold food available on all trips.

Details of all Shieldhall’s 2026 sailings and tickets for trips are available at ss-shieldhall.co.uk or through the Ticket Manager on 023 8155 0242 / email: tickets@ss-shieldhall.co.uk
