International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia march to be held in Southampton

By Mabel Wellman

On Sunday the 17th May 2026, Trans Pride Southampton will host a protest march for the whole LGBTQIA+ community.

The 17th of May is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHBT).

Trans Pride Southampton have organised multiple protests and events in the city, including the namesake Trans Pride event and events for Trans Day Of Remembrance. The group is looking forward to organising something this time to bring the entire LGBTQIA+ community together in a shared fight for our rights.

According to statistics, hate crimes committed for reasons around sexual orientation have risen by 20% over the past five years, and hate crimes for reasons to do with being trans+ have increased by 50%. This along with the constant news about the rollback of trans rights shows that the fight is not over, not just for the trans+ community, but everyone in the LGBTQIA+ spectrum.

On the 17th May, marchers will start assembling in Watts Park at 11am, to start the march at 12pm.

The march will proceed through Guildhall Square, down Above Bar and High Street, all the way to Town Quay Park.

After the march, there will be drinks at Dancing Man Brewery, a local, inclusive venue with wheelchair access who have been very welcoming to the group when the Trans Pride Southampton team first asked for permission to disperse to Dancing Man Brewery.

Attendees are encouraged to gather there to socialise and get to know more people in your local queer community.

Further details will be announced on the Trans Pride Southampton accounts on Facebook and Instagram. As well as on radio by Southampton Spectrum, the LGBTQIA+ show on Voice FM.
