In June 2023, Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story played to Mayflower Theatre audiences, and no one was more delighted to attend than super fan, Sarah Jane Tomaszewski.
Despite being 9 months pregnant, Sarah Jane attended the performance, desperate not to miss her favourite show.
In an exciting turn of events, soon after the curtain went up, Sarah Jane began experiencing contractions, however she remained determined to not miss the performance and made it through the show. Sarah Jane then went to hospital where she then gave birth to Baby Buddy.

Sarah, from Southampton, says: “I love Buddy Holly and wasn’t going to miss the show!
“I’ve been a fan since a young age when my dad took me to Mayflower Theatre to watch Buddy as a child. We loved the show and the brochure came in useful to fan myself with when the contractions started. After the show the contractions got worse, and before long baby Buddy made an appearance.”
It has been True Love Ways all the way for Sarah Jane and partner Carter Williams.
“When I met Buddy’s dad on one of our first dates I was telling him how I loved Buddy Holly,” explains Sarah. “He didn’t know of him (as you can imagine I was quite upset) I explained how he died and searched the day he died ,and it was that exact day, 3rd Feb, that we searched!!!
“We couldn’t believe how spooky it was. My partner is now pretty hooked on his music.”
This year, Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story returns to Mayflower Theatre from 21 to 23 May and Mayflower Theatre are excited to welcome Sarah Jane back to see the show as their guest of honour.
Buddy – the original ‘jukebox’ musical – has enjoyed phenomenal success, playing a record-breaking 4,900 performances over 614 weeks on tour in the UK and Ireland, as well as 5,822 performances over 728 weeks in London’s West End.
Featuring a multi-talented cast of actor-musicians, Buddy presents two terrific hours of music with over 20 of Buddy Holly’s greatest hits, including such timeless classics as That’ll Be The Day, Peggy Sue, Oh Boy, Everyday and Rave On.
