Southampton Common was full of positive energy on Sunday morning as Park Yoga returned for its first session of the year — and what a fantastic turnout it was. With around 200 people taking part, the event proved just how popular this free community activity has become.
Led by Kat, the session was welcoming, relaxing and accessible. She offered different options for stretches throughout to suit everyone’s comfort level and ability. Whether participants were completely new to yoga or more experienced, everyone was made to feel comfortable and able to take part at their own pace. It was wonderful to see such a diverse group of people coming together outdoors to enjoy exercise and fresh air.
There was a moment when a large bumblebee appeared to join in the fun, landing on the leg of the woman next to me and resting there peacefully for quite some time — a lovely reminder of how calm and connected to nature the experience felt.
Set against the beautiful surroundings of Southampton Common, it was a calming, uplifting and thoroughly enjoyable way to begin a Sunday morning — and I’ll certainly be returning for future sessions.
Park Yoga sessions are free and last for an hour, starting at 9.30am every Sunday morning for the next 19 weeks. There’s no need to book — simply turn up with a yoga mat, towel or blanket and join in. Organisers say it’s a perfect opportunity for anyone wanting to try yoga for the first time, with participants encouraged to go at their own pace and take time to relax and enjoy the surroundings if needed.
