This month sees the Urban Wild Festival return to Southampton.
With its flagship event on the Common on Sunday, May 24th, the week includes a huge range of events, from planting for children and families, through walks to discussion and planning for greener and more community friendly developments in Southampton.
Urban Wild, hosted by Southampton National Park City, is a week that showcases a world where biodiversity and people thrive together, reimagining Southampton as a greener, healthier, and more connected place for all.
The festival runs from May 23rd to 31st and even though it’s a well worn expression, there really is something for everyone, with most of the events being free of charge.

With a special focus on inclusivity, sustainability, and community action, Urban Wild is more than just an event — it’s a movement towards a brighter, more harmonious future. Whether you’re curious about urban ecology, passionate about the arts, or simply looking for a fun day out, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
On the afternoon of Sunday, May 24th, Urban Wild on the Common is a free nature and wildlife festival, featuring stalls, marquees, performances, and music.
Cyclists can saddle up for a number of social bike rides taking place across the week, whilst budding artists can take part in a workshop, capturing images in a solar-powered creative workshop. There’s also a bat walk, a supper and discussion evening, a pop up green space at October Books, a tour of the roof garden at Princess Anne Hospital and much, much more besides.
Look out for more features on the events in In Common and the special event newspaper, which will be available at Urban Wild on the Common and elsewhere.
