On Sunday 17th May Southampton had its first ever event for International Day Against Homophobia Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHBT) event.
This was a protest march organised by Trans Pride Southampton to stand up for queer rights, chants included calls to ban conversion therapy and demand LGBT+ rights.
The march started at 12pm, where some 100 members of the LGBTQIA+ community (and our allies) marched through the city centre. The protest was well received, with people cheering from their cars in solidarity, and only one or two members of the public expressing their distaste for the procession.
Following the march, organisers hosted a visit to the Dancing Man Brewery in Town Quay to have drinks and facilitate queer locals to get to know each other; with the goals of tackling isolation and helping to get organised. This too was well attended for over an hour after the march ended many stayed on to enjoy the buzz in the air.
