Yesterday saw pirates, swans a giant parrot and more take to the streets of Southampton for St Denys Carnival (23/5/26).

It was the second carnival, since the event relaunched last year, after an absence of around a quarter of a century.

This year the theme was ‘Pirates of the River Itchen’.

It included eco-powered floats, waves of cyclists, and performers on foot, who travelled from St Denys Community Centre through the streets of south St Denys, taking in a music stop at St Denys Church and ending back at the community centre.

This year the event has expanded to include a week-long art festival in addition to the carnival, running until May 29th, at St Denys Parish Church.
