A beloved adaptation of the Julia Donaldson classic, The Gruffalo, returns to Theatre Royal Winchester from Saturday 13 – Monday 15 June to captivate more little ones.
This musical rendition of the well-known picture book by children’s author Julia Donaldson and illustrator, Axel Scheffler, tells of Mouse who takes a stroll through the deep dark wood in search of hazelnuts. But, while out adventuring, Mouse meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the high-spirited Snake – all who want Mouse for their dinner! Will the scary Gruffalo save Mouse? Or not? After all, there’s no such thing as a Gruffalo, right?
Now celebrating 25 years, this charming family show is brought to the stage by Tall Stories theatre company whose other productions include adaptations of Donaldson’s The Smeds and The Smoos and Room on the Broom. Packed with song and mischief, and running at just over one hour, it is perfect early theatre for children aged 3+ (and their grown-ups).
Plus, on the Sunday, a touch tour at 10am will allow audiences the opportunity to visit the set and feel the props to familiarise themselves ahead of the show at 11am. This Relaxed performance at 11am is open to everyone but is designed to provide a supportive environment for people with additional needs – with the auditorium lights kept low and loud noises softened; the ability to freely leave and rejoin the performance at any time; and a dedicated chill-out area for those who want time out from the performance.
The Gruffalo will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from Saturday 13 – Monday 15 June at various times. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
