Comedians road-test Edinburgh Fringe material

Stand-up comedy fans are in for a treat when a host of comedians take to the stage at Theatre Royal Winchester to road-test new material ready for Edinburgh Fringe. The Fringe Funnies: Comedy Afternoon and Comedy Evening will take place on Saturday 18 July.

Play to the Crowd – the charity that runs Theatre Royal Winchester – and Winchester Comedy Festival have teamed up to present four comedians and their work – including Tiff Stevenson, Bilal Zafar, Glenn Wool, and Garett Millerick.

Tiff Stevenson and Bilal Zafar will perform in the afternoon at 3.30pm – with Stevenson presenting Lucky (Work in Progress) – about luck, boobs, and war; and Zafar, Salt of the Earth (Work in Progress), about working with children with Special Educational needs.

While Glenn Wool and Garrett Millerick will perform in the evening at 8pm – Wool with Glenn Wool Is Luv (Sic) – a thoughtful tale of the shock news of his divorce two weeks before his 50thbirthday;and Millerick with We Tried It Your Way (Work in Progress), reflecting upon a year of testing out self-help trends.

Tiff Stevenson – known for her appearances on the likes of House of Games and People Just Do Nothing – will share a show packed with half ideas, funny jokes and physicality; Leicester Comedy Fest’s Best New Show nominee (2024), Bilal Zafar, will explore his school life, ego, class and race; Wool’s show recounts the highs and lows of receiving a surprise divorce; and Millerick’s addresses feeling healthier but not happier!

Fringe Funnies takes place at Theatre Royal Winchester on Saturday 18 July – with Fringe Funnies: Comedy Afternoon at 3.30pm and Fringe Funnies: Comedy Evening at 8pm.
