Review: Soul 45 Boogie Down BBQ brings community together on Southampton Common

By Charlotte Ndupuechi.

The 7th annual Soul 45 Boogie Down BBQ returned to Southampton Common yesterday (30/5/26), delivering a day of great music and community spirit.

With a full sound system providing the soundtrack from noon until 11pm, people gathered with friends, family, food and drinks to enjoy the event.

Organised by Mark James and the Soul 45 team as a free event for the people, the Boogie Down BBQ attracted a diverse crowd, all united by a love of music and a shared sense of community.

Events like this offer a welcome reminder of the power of bringing people together. The atmosphere throughout the day was warm, friendly and inclusive, with everyone there simply to enjoy the music, the space and each other’s company.

Blessed with fabulous weather, Southampton Common provided the perfect setting for a day filled with dancing, laughter and good vibes.

My hat goes off to the organisers for continuing to put on such a fantastic event and, importantly, keeping it free for all. It was my first year attending, but I will definitely be back.
