The Wannadies are set to return to the UK for the first time in four years. The Swedish Britpoppers will take to the stage at The Brook on 15th November, marking their first show in the country since releasing new material in 2024.
Not many acts have the notoriety The Wannadies maintain 20 years on – but with an unforgettable sound and a killer stage presence, the group’s talents have secured them into the history books forever.
The Wannadies will be joined by special guests and Bristol-based indie rockers Belle Dame. With their energy-packed, spirited stage presence, they are sure to catch the eye and ear of any keen music fan.
Hailing from Skellefteå, formed in the late 80s, the group brought Swedish alt-rock to UK shores, like no other band, transforming both the British, and Swedish music scene in their stead. Described as ‘classic Britpop from beginning to end’.
Their third album ‘Be A Girl’, received acclaim for its bright, glossy sound, and its longstanding cultural presence. Singles such as ‘You And Me Song’ and ‘Might Be The Stars’ became instant classics, still receiving wide-spread airplay even years on, with the former finding its way into Hollywood blockbuster Romeo & Juliet starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Claire Danes.
On their 1997 album ‘Bagsy Me’, the group approached their initial sound with a fresh perspective. Using more heavy-rock elements and a newfound brashness, the album saw tracks like ‘Hit’ and ‘Shorty’ topped the charts upon release, further cementing the group’s star-power within the UK music scene. Alongside their initial rise to success, The Wannadies went onto win crowds’ hearts around the nation, becoming known for their infectious stage presence and unmissable live sets.
After a string of power pop hits and tours all over the world, the band decided to take a break in 2003 – a break that would last 19 years. But the 2020s saw The Wannadies make their long-awaited return, and in recent memory the band have been more active as ever, releasing ‘Can’t Kill the Musikk’ in September 2020.
Since then, the band have released their first new material in two decades and toured across Sweden, but November marks their first return to the UK in four years.
