Anti-racism demonstrators will be back on the streets of Southampton on Friday evening, in response to anti-asylum seeker protests resuming outside a city hotel.
After a break of some months, ‘Southampton Patriots’ are set to resume their once-weekly protests outside Highfield House Hotel, which houses asylum seekers, placed there by the Home Office while they await the outcome of their asylum applications.
The protests, which started over a year ago, had seen dwindling numbers before they were called to a halt earlier this summer.
Southampton Stand Up To Racism (SSUTR) has called a counter protest on Friday. They will be gathering at the bus stop outside Waitrose in Portswood before marching up Portswood Road and gathering for a counter-demonstration opposite the anti-asylum seeker protest outside Highfield House Hotel.
On social media, SSUTR said: “please join us in support of our beloved multicultural community.’
