Preview: Numb and Number, The Point, Eastleigh

Doctor by day, comedian by night – NHS anaesthetist, Ed Patrick, brings his new stand-up show, Numb and Number, to The Point on Saturday 26 September at 7.30pm.

Blending sharp observational comedy with the extraordinary realities of hospital life, Patrick offers audiences a rare perspective – the comic voice of someone whose working days involve high-pressure decisions, sleepless shifts and the serious business of keeping people alive by putting them to sleep.

In Numb and Number, Patrick turns the strange, stressful and occasionally surreal world of medicine into comedy that is both darkly funny and unexpectedly human. His experience as a doctor gives the show a gripping edge, while his instinct as a stand-up finds the absurdity in everything from operating theatres and night shifts to the coping mechanisms that help medical staff get through the toughest moments.

Patrick is the author of Catch Your Breath: The Secret Life of a Sleepless Anaesthetist, a memoir inspired by his time in anaesthetics and on the COVID frontline. He is also the host of the Comedians’ Surgery podcast, where he has spoken to leading comics about health, bodies and the stories we rarely admit out loud.

As seen on Have I Got News For You and heard on BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio Scotland, Patrick has built a reputation for smart, candid comedy that brings together two worlds not often found sharing the same stage: the NHS and stand-up.

Tickets from £16.50 available at: thepointeastleigh.co.uk.
