Southampton Anti-Racism Alliance – new Southampton anti-racism organisation to launch with unity march

A new anti-racism group has been formed in Southampton  – and it will be launching with a unity march in November.

The newly-formed Southampton Anti-Racism Alliance (SARA) has been established to bring together trade unions, faith groups, refugee and migrant organisations, community groups, charities, schools, student organisations and local campaign groups, including Southampton Stand Up To Racism, in a broad alliance committed to promoting equality, inclusion and community cohesion across our city.

In a letter to community organisations, the group said: “By working together across our different organisations and communities, we can create an inspiring city-wide event that reflects the very best of Southampton.”

Southampton Anti-Racism Alliance’s first event will be Southampton Unity March on Saturday 7 November.

The group said: “This will be a positive, inclusive event celebrating the diversity of our city and bringing people together around our shared values of respect, solidarity and belonging.

“By working together across our different organisations and communities, we can create an inspiring city-wide event that reflects the very best of Southampton.”

Jayanti Shah, MBE, secretary of Southampton Stand Up To Racism and one of the founding members of the new Southampton Anti-Racism Alliance, said: “Southampton – one city, many cultures. This diversity has to be celebrated. Our city is united.”

In Common will share more details of Southampton Anti-Racism Alliance and the Southampton Unity March as they are announced.
