A community rally in support of the RNLI is being held in Poole this weekend.
On Saturday (12/9/26), supporters of the charity which is dedicated to saving lives at sea will gather at Poole Quay from 1.30pm to stand with the RNLI and to ‘show that the far right does not speak for (the local) community.’
In a statement on social media, Stand Up To Racism Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole said: “After the disorderly scenes in Dover on Saturday, in Portsmouth on Sunday, where the far right gathered to intercept refugees arriving by sea, and now after the active targeting of the building, and intimidation of staff at RNLI HQ in Poole on Monday and Thursday’s “vigil”, we must step up to defend the RNLI.”
They added that neither refugees nor RNLI volunteers and staff are the enemy.
It’s now vital that we show there is a strong anti-racist majority here.
“We will not allow racism and scapegoating to divide our communities or turn those who save lives into targets,” they said, adding that the event would be a peaceful show of solidarity for the organisation which has been saving lives for more than 200 years.
