Southampton indie rock band launch new single Cheap Gold Chain with homecoming gig

On Friday (September 30)  Southampton indie rock band, Pioneers, release their new single ‘Cheap Gold Chain,’ and will be marking the occasion with a homecoming gig at the city venue, The Loft, on Friday night.

The four piece band is made up of Sam Watts on vocals/rhythm guitar, Toby Gathercole on lead guitar, Sam Over on bass guitar and backing vocals and Dan Johnston on drums.

The band were initially formed in 2017. Their debut single ‘Take Time’ was picked up and played on BBC Radio One by Dev, Scott Mills, Greg James and Clara Amfo and the band were further interviewed on air by Alice Levine.

Pioneers are now back with their latest offering ‘Cheap Gold Chain’, following the release of their previous single, ‘Hit and Run’ in July. ‘Cheap Gold Chain’ is a fast paced anthem that takes no time for breath. Lead singer Sam Watts details the anxieties and stresses of a night out. The track was recorded at Smokestack Studios in Gosport and was mixed and mastered by Joe Lewis-Brown.

Front man Sam of the single: “Nowadays you’re constantly reminded of what you should look like or what you should be and this creates anxieties and self doubt when out in public that I’m sure a lot of people can relate to. The main thing is for people to be their authentic selves.

“We love writing music that sounds huge live and the great thing about ‘Cheap Gold Chain’ is, we don’t only see it as a strong single that shows our progression as a band, but it also lets listeners have an indication of what a Pioneers live show is like.”

With previous radio play on BBC Introducing, where the band have been given the accolade of “Record of The Week”,  BBC Radio One, playing at Isle of Wight Festival and a string of tour dates with new music champions This Feeling, the band hope that this new release  is going to continue the upward trajectory of this promising band.

You can follow the band on Instagram and Twitter.
