Southampton charity calls on green fingered residents to donate plants & help isolated people

Greenfingered folk from Southampton are being asked this month to sow extra seeds, take cuttings and grow on plants to sell in aid of the charity Communicare.

Communicare is hosting a plant sale in April at its community bakery, CommuniBakes, and is asking for donations of plants, which will be sold to raise money to help vulnerable and isolated people in the city.

Emily Arbery, Fundraising and Finance Coordinator at Communicare, said: “We’re very excited to be able once again to host our annual plant sale at our commercial arm, CommuniBakes in Shirley on Saturday, April 29, with all money raised from the sale of plants going towards furthering the work we do to help vulnerable and isolated people in Southampton.

“We’re asking anyone out there who might be currently sowing or growing plants to please sow or plant a few extra for us and donate them to the sale. They can be dropped at CommuniBakes on the day of the event from 8.30am.

“The sale will take place at the back of CommuniBakes and will include a variety of houseplants and garden plants. People will also be able to pick up a sweet or savoury treat from the bakery if they wish to as well.”

Communicare is currently supporting more than 600 individuals/families through tasks including one-to-one telephone befriending and transport for essential appointments and assistance with shopping.

The plant sale will take place at CommuniBakes at 21, St James Road, Shirley, Southampton on Saturday, April 29 from 10am until 12.30pm.
