Trans Pride Southampton to hold LGBTQIA+ beach event

Fingers crossed for sunshine at the weekend, Trans Pride Southampton is holding a LGBTQIA+ Meet At The Beach.

The event will be held on the 12th of August 2023, from noon at Calshot Beach.

Mabel Wellman, an organiser of Trans Pride, said: “Many people in the transgender community never go to the beach. This can be due to gender dysphoria about their own body, or worries about how other people will perceive them and how that could affect their experience.
“Unfortunately, there are body confidence issues throughout the whole LGBTQIA+ community. So as well as trans people, we expect many other people in the community to be anxious when going to the beach (or forfeit the activity entirely).
“Our aim is to create an accepting environment for all people, so that together people we can have a fun day at the beach. Which we hope can then help people to take part in this experience themselves or with friends made on the day.”
Calshot Beach is accessible from Southampton by bus, and also has ample car parking, a public bathroom (including disabled toilets) and has some refreshment options.
The event is child friendly – organiser request children are properly supervised at all times.
