Playmakers Youth Theatre is back!

Playmakers Youth Theatre is back this month for a new term and a new year of drama and musical theatre sessions that offer young people the chance to create and perform their very own, original pieces of work and develop their confidence.

It offers members the chance to take part in exciting practical sessions that explore all elements of drama or musical theatre and develop their acting and theatre-making skills.

The sessions are open to anyone in School Years 4 – 7 and 8 – 11 and young people can choose between joining the Drama & Theatre or Musical Theatre groups.

With the assistance of industry professionals, the Drama & Theatre groups explore acting, character development, story generation, direction and more; the Musical Theatre groups concentrate on acting for musical theatre, choreography, creating stories, singing and more.

There are also opportunities for members to perform on the Theatre Royal Winchester stage and at Hat Fair – the UK’s longest running festival of Outdoor Arts.

Playmakers Youth Theatre Producer, Shian Hunter, said: “Our participants get this one-of-a-kind experience where they get to choose what they create based on what matters to them.

“They get to devise their own work, which is a way for them to find their voice and develop skills they can use now and in the future.

“For our participants they become the centre of everything we do, everything revolves around what they want to do, not what we as adults want to do or what we have created for them to do.

“They get to start the conversation about the stuff that matters to them and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of that.”

Playmakers Youth Theatre sessions are designed for all and to provide a safe, stimulating and supportive environment for young people to be happy, develop confidence and thrive.

There is financial support (including bursaries) offered to new and existing members for whom the price is a barrier to joining. Plus, local young people and their parents/guardians are welcome to sign upfor a free taster session to see what Youth Theatre is about.

Playmakers Youth Theatre costs £85 per term – with an aim to provide all groups with 10 sessions per term. A loyalty offer is available for previous members.
