Review: Board in the City – Come for the games, stay for lunch!

By Charlotte Ndupuechi.

As the winter sets in you may be on the lookout for a cozy venue to while away the hours. Board in the City is a great concept. A table-top gaming cafe offering a welcoming environment for all. It has a huge selection of board games, community events and food and drinks options – this is definitely a location to check out.

They have a friendly team of staff who are happy to explain the rules of the games and introduce you to some of their personal favourites.

Entry fee is just £5 per adult and £3 for children for unlimited games and time.

They have a range of menu options available covering all sorts of dietary requirements and children’s options. And while you treat yourself to lunch and possibly a mocktail, milkshake or really good cup of coffee, you are also supporting a great cause as they are a community interest company. This year their focus for support is on mental health.

My two children love the Dungeons and Dragons game days. These are very popular and get booked up quickly, and you can see why. A volunteer dungeon master takes the groups on an imaginary adventure where gamers can totally immerse themselves in the experience. There are games to suit all ages and abilities, and all resources are provided.

Board in the City can be found at:

38-40 Onslow Road,
Southampton,
SO14 0JG

To book a table you can go online at boardinthecity.co.uk

Or call 023 81783 240.

And check out their Facebook page for events.
