Fans of jazz and swing are invited to an evening with ‘the UK’s hardest swinging band’, Down for the Count All-Stars, as they celebrate A Century of Swing at Theatre Royal Winchester on Sunday 14 January.
A Century of Swing is a whistle-stop tour of the best swing music – from its origins in 1920s America to the genre’s heyday in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. Audiences will enjoy songs from the likes of Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Nat King Cole and Ella Fitzgerald.
Down for the Count can regularly be found performing in jazz clubs around the UK and overseas including at Ronnie Scott’s in London and Le Caveau de la Huchette in Paris.
Festival-goers have also enjoyed the band’s music at London Jazz Festival and they have also performed on BBC Radio. A Century of Swing now sees them bringing the sound and feel of the best jazz clubs to theatres across the country – with a show packed with incredible energy, musicianship, wry wit and humour.
As part of the evening, the band will also perform their own original arrangements of classic jazz music, which featured on their new album – bringing swing music up to date.
