Preview: Mapdance 2024, Theatre Royal Winchester

Contemporary dance enthusiasts will get the chance to experience exciting new works by established and emerging international choreographers when Mapdance visits Theatre Royal Winchester on Thursday 18 April.

The company’s show will feature three newly commissioned works showcasing gritty dance-theatre and athletic and fast-paced choreography.

With 14 dancers taking to the stage, Swiss born dance artist’s Renaud Wiser’s, Dear Body, will celebrate the body’s pride, fragilities and expressiveness, choreographer, director and performer Carrie Whitaker’s, Thought in the Dark, explores individuality and the force that compels us to reshape ourselves, while Tokyo born dancer and choreographer Yukiko Masui’s, For Seasons, is a contemporary take on Vivaldi, celebrating the seasons. The show will also include a restaging of Sarah Golding’s work, State, which explores different ways to translate music in and out of the body.

The show is brought to the stage by the University of Chichester’s touring performance company, Mapdance, and is a Pick Your Price event meaning audiences can opt for the ticket price that works best for them – with tickets starting at just £8.

Mapdance2024 will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Thursday 18 April at 7pm. Recommended age: 12+. For more information or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
