Preview: Ashley Blaker: Normal Schmormal, Theatre Royal Winchester

Comedian Ashley Blaker waxes lyrical about raising children with special needs in his new stand-up show, Normal Schmormal, at Theatre Royal Winchester on Sunday 21 April.

The show is based on Blaker’s best-selling book of the same name, which explores parenting children with special needs, including attending endless meetings, facing countless therapists, public humiliation, failed playdates and occasional violence.

The book – part memoir, part guide, which was serialised in The Sunday Times and written with humour and compassion – has been described as a must-read for parents, carers and teachers of children with special educational needs.

Blaker’s show now explores how the acclaimed comedian doesn’t live in a ‘normal’ household, but would he want to.

A ‘skilled storyteller’ according to The New York Times, Blaker is also a writer and producer whose credits include 6.5 Children (BBC Radio 4, star), Little Britain (Radio 4, producer), V Graham Norton (Channel 4, writer), and The Joan Rivers Position (Channel 5, writer). He has sold out in London, off Broadway, and the Edinburgh Festival, and toured the UK and world.

Ashley Blaker: Normal Schmormal will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Sunday 21 April at 7.30pm. Recommended age: 16+. For more information or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
