Preview: Wicked, Mayflower Theatre, Southampton

Wicked, the spectacular, multi-record-breaking and critically acclaimed production, is set to fly back to the Mayflower Theatre stage from Thursday 23 May to Sunday 16 June 2024.

Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two young women – the popular Glinda and a misunderstood Elphaba – who first meet as sorcery students at Shiz University.

Following an encounter with The Wizard, their friendship reaches a crossroads, and their lives take very different paths.

Glinda’s unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power while Elphaba’s determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences for her future.

The cast will be led by former West End Elphaba, Laura Pick, with Fiyero played by Carl Man.

“I’m thrilled to be leading the UK & Ireland tour cast of Wicked and to be given the opportunity to continue my journey in the unique and extraordinary role of Elphaba, which first began for me in the West End in 2017,” says Laura. “Wicked has been a life and career-changing show for me and I am very proud to be part of the cast bringing this incredible musical to audiences in Southampton.”

Now it its 17th year at London’s Apollo Victoria Theatre, the ‘untold story’ of the Witches of Oz has been seen by more than 60 million people around the world and 11 million people in the West End alone.

Wicked features 350 stunning costumes, 140 wigs, 244 pairs of shoes, 110 hats, 125 pairs of gloves and 30 prosthetic masks, and with a touring cast, orchestra, company and crew of 82 people, and a further 20 people employed locally, it takes 100 people, both on-stage and behind the scenes, to deliver the performances of this touring production.

Tickets for Wicked (23 May – 16 June 2024) are on sale at mayflower.org.uk or 02380 711811.
