Comedy theatre fans are in for a treat when the slapstick murder mystery, A Shoddy Detective and The Art of Deception visits Theatre Royal Winchester from Friday 6 June.

A Shoddy Detective and The Art of Deception tells of a priceless painting that goes missing during a private auction, leading to Detective Stuart Pidcock being called in to uncover the mystery.

But, when he cannot solve it alone, he is forced to enlist the help of an old nemesis!

Acting together, the pair must interrogate the many suspects that reside at the manor in order to catch the conniving culprit and solve the crime of the century.

Featuring four actors playing multiple characters, A Shoddy Detective and The Art of Deception is brought to the stage by Shoddy Theatre, which began in 2018 as a group of graduating students working on their final assessment. The group decided to create a slapstick inspired by British and American comedies and from there they won a grant to become a professional theatre company and take their show on the road!

Thus, A Shoddy Detective and The Art of Deception comes to Winchester fresh from sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, Camden Fringe and the New Normal Festival.

A Shoddy Detective and The Art of Deception will be at Theatre Royal Winchester from Friday 6 – Saturday 7 June at 7.30pm, Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
