Fans of the classic spy movie can enjoy a comedic homage to the genre when Spy Movie: The Play! comes to Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday 25 June.
Spy Movie: The Play! tells the story of Agent Blonde who has 24 hours to save the world! The only things standing in her way are dastardly villains, an outrageous plot, and a lack of funding! When Hollywood rejects a frustrated screenwriter’s script, she invites an audience (you) to enjoy a one-night-only presentation of The Greatest Spy Movie (n)Ever Made!
The show is written by Matthew Howell and Jack Michael Stacey who met whilst performing in the West End version of The Play That Goes Wrong and went on to work together by writing the play, The New Musketeers; starring in the UK tour of Peter Pan Goes Wrong; and writing Spy Movie: The Play! – which they premiered under their new company name, A. Cabbage Productions – named in honour of the original producers of the Bond franchise – and which enjoyed a sell-out, critically acclaimed run at The Hope Theatre in London.
The show stars Katy Daghorn (also from The Play That Goes Wrong, West End, and Peter Pan Goes Wrong, UK tour) as The Writer; Jo Hartland (Eastenders, Holby City) as The Actress; Howell as The Producer; and Jamie Watterson (also of The Play That Goes Wrong, West End and UK tour) as The Stuntman.
A show that was created by two writers who shared a love of genre movies and fringe theatre, Spy Movie: The Play! is for all Bond movie buffs, fringe fans, and the whole family.
Spy Movie: The Play! will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Wednesday 25 June at 7.30pm. Recommended age: 12+. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
