Opera fans will be pleased to hear that New Sussex Opera returns to Theatre Royal Winchester on Sunday 8 June with the UK premiere production of The Silver Bell.
The Silver Bell (or Le Timbre d’argent) tells the story of a poor, tormented artist who is consumed with passion and ambition and is given a silver bell that will provide him with all his heart desires… But, things are never that simple!
Originally by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns to a French libretto by Jules Barbier and Michel Carré, this newly commissioned English translation is a fantastical and compelling tale with a sumptuous score brought to the stage by New Sussex Opera Chorus – a community-based company whose chorus-led productions have been hosted by London’s prestigious Cadogan Hall and UCL’s Bloomsbury Theatre. Previously, New Sussex Opera were at the theatre with The Dragon of Wantley.
This time, they will be joined by St Paul’s Sinfonia; the award-winning and internationally-renowned conductor Toby Purser and director Paul Higgins; with Anthony Flaum as the artist, Conrad, and Sky Ingram as his sweetheart, Hélène.
The Silver Bell will be at Theatre Royal Winchester on Sunday 8 June at 4pm. For more information, or to book tickets, visit: theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840 440.
