Southampton Trades Union Council to hold rally to defend local jobs and services

Southampton and South West Hampshire Trades Union Council is holding a rally next month in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

A spokesperson said: “The event will be a demonstration and rally for workers and students to say loudly and clearly that we will not be forced to pay for the costs of the coronavirus pandemic. After ten years of austerity caused by a banking crisis that we again had no part in making, our communities have been left defenceless against the pandemic with services hollowed out and unable to react.
Job losses are already taking place linked directly to the effects on the pandemic and will continue to rise, employers are also using the cover of Covid19 to attack the pay and conditions of workers lucky enough to remain employed.
This must be resisted by trade unions and workers by all means necessary and employing all resources and tactics available to us. Join us and help to organise this resistance locally as part of a nationwide strategy.”

The rally is set to take place on Saturday, November 7, at 11.30am at Southampton Central Library. For more information, visit the event Facebook page.
