Electric bike tours launch in Southampton

Electric guided bike tours have been launched in Southampton, bringing an alternative outdoor activity to the city.

The initiative has been launched by Made in:Here and See Southampton, in a first for Southampton.

A group, of up to 16, will be provided with electric bikes, sanitised helmets, insurance, and map of the route. It will be led by a SEE Southampton Guide and supported by a tour assistant.

A spokesperson said: “Electric bikes are extremely comfortable, easy to pedal, non-polluting and sustainable, and the batteries last several hours. With this formidable pedal power, tour participants will be able to cover much wider areas than just the city centre, including Mayflower Park, the Old Bowling Green and the Saints stadium among many other stopping points. You’ll also discover for the most part that Southampton is a relatively flat city. What is there not to like about this activity?

“These are a great opportunity to network and meet new people, get fresh air, exercise, and learn about local history and heritage. Plus, a lot of trivia, e.g.: why was The Titanic not SS or HMS but RMS? What is the link between Southampton, football and Brazil? Why is there an ‘American Wall’ in Southampton? “

Southampton Guided Ebike Tours take place on Sunday mornings (Classic Tour) and Wednesday evenings (Sunset Tour). Optional add-ons are available which include afternoon tea, extended bike hire and more, plus themed programmes.

Ebike Tours run on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month at 10am from the Mercure Dolphin Hotel car park and on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6pm.

All tours last two hours. Pre-booking is essential on www.madeinhere.co.uk/product/e-bike-tours

Tickets cost £18pp for adults, and £16.50 for 16 to 18 year olds.
