With more glitz and glamour than ever before, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is back on tour, featuring spectacular dance routines, a dazzling array of eye-popping costumes and all the glitter you can imagine.

The musical show, produced for the first time by Jason Donovan, has a scintillating, sing-a-long soundtrack full of favourite dance-floor classics, including Don’t Leave Me This Way, I Will Survive and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Based on the Oscar-winning movie, Priscilla is the hilarious and heart-warming adventure of three friends who hop aboard a battered old bus bound for the Outback to put on the show of a lifetime. Two worlds collide on this fabulous journey of self-discovery and friendship, and along the way our trio discover the true power of love, acceptance, and sass.

Actor and singer, Jason, who starred in the original West End production and toured with the show twice explains why Priscilla is the perfect post-lockdown show.

“It’s escapism,” he says. “And it’s a story about overcoming adversity. Plus as a musical it’s sort of a celebration of life. Musicals are the perfect antidote to what we’ve been through because we need escapism.

“And even though Priscilla can be harsh and tough at times in the subjects it deals with – it’s not Disney, put it that way – it taps into that thing of ‘I will survive’. You’ve got songs like Colour My World and MacArthur Park and it’s just such a happy, upbeat show about everyone getting on and living together.

“That’s very relevant at this time.”

Tickets for Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (4 – 9 October 2021) are on sale at mayflower.org.uk or 02380 711811.
